GEN. TRIAS CITY, Cavite: From February 1 to 28, the entire Cavite province will be under a modified general community quarantine (MGCQ), which allows for more outdoor activities, including the popular sabong (cockfighting) and the crowd-gathering Zumba street dancing.
While the province has slowly relaxed its strict quarantine measures for the past five months, Zumba sessions in some cities and towns have resumed, following health protocols such as wearing face masks and maintaining physical distance during the dance activity.
Meanwhile, cockfighting will resume in some coliseums in the province on February 2, but safety measures will still be maintained among participants to avoid the transmission of Covid-19.
Arnold Tacos, operator of New GenTri Sports Coliseum in Barangay Manggahan, Gen. Trias City and president of the Association of Cockpit Operators and Owners in the province of Cavite, said on his social media post that this was a welcome development for cockfighting aficionados after a 10-month hiatus.
According to Tacos, after a series of meetings with Gov. Juanito Victor "Jonvic" Remulla, the provincial official allowed the resumption of sabong, which was earlier classified as a "Covid-19 super spreader."
Cockfighting participants are advised that there would be limited slots in arenas, and a first come, first served basis will be imposed. The wearing of face masks and face shields is also required upon entry. A maximum of four persons are allowed per entry, including the manager, handler, gaffer and assistant. Minors and persons with health issues are barred from entry. Roving bet collectors as well as outside food and drinks are also disallowed.
