MANILA, Philippines — Mayor Isko Moreno Domagoso ordered the stoppage of online derby or ‘sabong’ across the city that are without license from the state-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR). “Kung mapapatunayan namin na ang mga online sabong ay walang prangkisa ng PAGCOR, isasama na rin namin ang pagsasara ng online activity ng sabong sa lungsod ng Maynila,” he said in a live broadcast on Facebook early Monday (July 29). Mayor Isko’s announcement followed the earlier directive of President Rodrigo Duterte to stop operations of all gaming activities operated and franchised by the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) due to massive corruption. In his message the Mayor ordered the city of Manila’s Business License Office to withdraw business licenses and mayor’s permit of all Lotto, small town lottery (STL) and other gaming activities under PCSO effective immediately. The Mayor has given Atty. Paul Vega, OIC of Manila’s Business and Licenses Office three days to submit a progress report in line with his directive. “Ang kautusang ito ng inyong lingkod ay mananatili habang umiiral ang bagong national policy ng ating pangulo regarding the operasyon ng PCSO,” he stressed.
